What Size Wedding is Right For Me?

Written by Ioan Gwyn

Congratulations on your engagement! Now the real fun part starts - the wedding planning! But how big of a wedding do you want? We’ll take you through some things to consider when choosing the size of your wedding and help you decide if a larger or smaller wedding is right for you.

The almighty deciding factor in the size of your wedding is the budget. You’re going to have to pay for every single person that attends your wedding.

A way to keep the budget down is to really hone in on who you want to attend. Even by keeping it to “family only” or “adults only” you’ll be saving some money on food and drink.

If you have a lot of friends and family, you’re probably looking at a big guest list. For a big guest list, you’ll need a big venue, and a big venue is quite expensive. The number of wedding guests directly affects the amount of money you’ll be spending.

If you need to bring the number of guests down due to budget or size constraints, there are ways to do so:

Evening-only Guests - You don’t need to invite everyone to the ceremony, you can have people there just for the evening.

Plus Ones - If you don’t know someone’s partner then you don’t have to have them at your wedding.

Family Pressure - Think about whether certain people getting an invite is important to you or important to your parents/grandparents. It’s your wedding day after all.

Recently due to covid restrictions a lot of couples have had to think twice about their wedding size. A lot of couples have gone ahead with a lower number of guests, which requires a certain amount of chopping and changing, and leaving people out.

If not inviting people  is an issue to you, or you think it could cause unnecessary stress or drama within your family, then perhaps a larger wedding is for you when restrictions allow more guests.

Are you looking at a local wedding? Or are you considering a wedding slightly further afield? There are a lot of options as to where you get married.

The location of your wedding will most likely come down to where your families are based to ensure that every person you want there can get there easily.

An elopement can be to a certain location that holds personal value to you and your partner, or to a place that you’ve always dreamed of going to. It can be a very personal and amazing experience. You can always have a party when you come back!

With covid restrictions about, elopement became a popular choice for an alternative wedding. Couples who had to reschedule their wedding completely, or just wanted to get it over and done with, retreated to beautiful parts of the country to tie the knot.
