Real Weddings
The Church in the Sea

by Love Adventure Photography

Want to get married somewhere iconic, with big sea views and a dramatic layout?

Rachel and Alun did just that by choosing St Cwyfan’s Church which is perched on the tiny island called Cribinau just off the coast of Aberffraw in Anglesey.

You can’t not be in love with weddings or elopements on Anglesey and this one was seriously special. With Anglesey only 20 minutes from my home village, it’s somewhere I love to spend a lot of my own down time. Exploring the secluded beaches and deserted coves around the dramatic coastline is one of the best days out.

What makes this place so special…?

The Church in the Sea or Eglwys Bach y Mor in Welsh, was originally built in the 12th century on a peninsula between two bays; over the years the sea has eroded the coast line enough that the peninsula was cut off, turning it into an beautiful but tiny island. The church has since been refurbished and a causeway was built for access. However, you must remember to check the tide times if you want to walk over to the island.

Now on to the wedding… these guys couldn’t have made our day any easier. With their relaxed, fun approach to their day, it was smiles, laughter and happy tears everywhere you turned. The girls all got ready at a tiny cottage walking distance from the church, with their wellies at the ready and emotions running high, we made the short walk across the causeway to the waiting guests at the church.

Their beautiful ceremony was followed by a picnic on the beach and then the guests headed to the reception marquee at a family home in Ruthin. With the food and speeches done, it was time to take the celebrations to the next level! An incredible rehearsed routine for the first dance which ended in shots and some big moves on the rocking dance floor.
